Lomond Sound Online School Presentation

Opening Concert

Lomond Sound’s school online presentation consists of a pre-recorded (approximately 45 minute) concert by members of the group, performing together as well as solo. During their individual performances, they will introduce themselves and demonstrate their folk art activity (music, storytelling, and dance).

Instructional videos

After agreeing to host the Lomond Sound presentation, your school will be provided with links to instructional videos for each subject they have chosen (fiddle, tin whistle, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, storytelling, dance, and songwriting).  The workshop videos generally consist of two sections: the first has introductory information; the second has material for those who are more advanced in the subject. Most members of Lomond Sound have recorded four video workshops; two in 2020 and two in 2021. We recommend that your school’s music teacher preview each video to determine its appropriateness for your students’ ages and technical levels.

Follow-up sessions

After students have watched their workshop instructional videos and had a chance to try their activities, your school can request an online follow-up Google Meet session with the individual artists; these can be scheduled at a convenient time during school hours. Schools should contact each artist directly using the email address provided with their workshop description. Descriptions of each workshop along with suggested times and dates for each artist are available here; we will send you links to the online videos when your school has confirmed that it will host our presentation. Each school can invite any number of artists for one or two 30-45 minute follow-up workshops.

Supplementary Materials

Schools will also be provided with supplementary materials (e.g. PDFs of sheet music, warm-up techniques, video links, resource guides, etc) for each workshop.  These can be found at the end of each artist’s workshop description.
